Registration fees - what they are used for.

Races similar to ours exist all over the province of Ontario and are for the most part organized, implemented and supervised by volunteers. The governing body of triathlon in Ontario (OAT - Ontario Association of Triathletes) is sponsored by various companies. Their support helps cover the cost of putting on events like ours. In 2008 both Speedo and New Balance have pulled away from support OAT. The result for small races like ours, is that we must now obsorb the cost of medals, swim caps and bib numbers. In light of this additonal cost we have simply had to raise the cost of registration. For 3-5 year olds from $10.00 to $12.00 and for the rest from $30.00 for 2010 to $32.00 for 2011. We are the lowest entry fee in most of southern Ontario for Kids of Steel races.

  • Police (even though our race is completely supervised by 15-17 Auxilary Police Officers) we must always keep in the budget room for additional paid duty officers if the need is required.
  • St. Johns Ambulance
  • T-Shirts optional/ hats optional
  • Race bibs
  • Signage for race day.
  • Sanctioning per event from the Ontario Association of Triathletes.
  • Radio and Communications
  • Food and drink not just for the participants but for the 100 volunteers of whom give up a ton of time to assist us with the race.
  • Printing and other related supplies.
  • Pool rental and hall space for now is provided via a Municipal Grant from the Municipality of Clarington but we will not be eligable for this grant for ever.
  • Timing. Having the event timed electrionically is our biggest cost even more if we have splits. It's even more than the T-shirts and food combined!

These are just some of the costs that registration fees cover.

Online registrations will this year accept cheques for those who are nervous about using their credit cards online.

There is a deadline for entries and it is Saturday August 6th 12:00 noon. There will simply be no exceptions..
